Do’s and don'ts

  1. Understand that social media marketing is most effective when it is an authentic, transparent voice and not used as a vehicle to push promotional messaging.
  2. Take the time to listen to the unfiltered voices of your audience who are engaged in digital conversations about your area before you jump into the fray.
  3. Consult UOIT Communications and Marketing regarding use of logos and graphics.
  4. Adhere to the terms and conditions of the social service you are using.
  5. Understand the benefits, as well as the limitations, of the tools or tactics such as blogs, social networks, Twitter, etc. before initiating a new channel.

  1. Post confidential or proprietary university-related information.

  3. Use language that is vulgar or condescending.
  4. Publish images of people without first obtaining written authorization.
