Reciprocal Borrowing
Current UOIT students, faculty, and staff can borrow material in person at other university libraries in Canada. UOIT faculty, students and staff are strongly encouraged to obtain information on the privileges available at individual host libraries before visiting those libraries. PARTICIPATING UNIVERSITIES
ONTARIO: UOIT has reciprocal borrowing agreements with members of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL). The following institutions will lend directly, in person, to faculty, staff, and students from UOIT:
Brock University, Carleton University, Lakehead University, Laurentian University, McMaster University, Nipissing University, Queen's University, Royal Military College, Ryerson University, Trent University, University of Guelph, University of Ottawa, University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, University of Windsor, Wilfrid Laurier University, York University.
The University of Toronto and the Ontario College of Art and Design will lend to faculty, staff and graduate students from UOIT but will not lend to undergraduate students.
OTHER CANADIAN PROVINCES: Through OCUL, UOIT also has reciprocal borrowing agreements with other Canadian universities. The following institutions will lend directly, in person, to faculty, staff, and students from UOIT.
- Institutions in British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba that belong to the Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries (COPPUL).
- Institutions in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland that belong to the Council of Atlantic University Libraries/Conseil des bibliotheques universitaires de l'Atlantique (CAUL/CBUA)
- Institutions in Quebec that belong to La Conference des recteurs et des principaux des universites du Quebec (CREPUQ). Institutions in Quebec do not lend to undergraduate students.
BORROWING INFORMATION
Library Card: To use the libraries at these universities (except for universities in Quebec), present your valid UOIT photo ID student or staff card at the appropriate desk and complete any necessary registration form. Collateral identification may be required. You will be issued a library card for use at the library. To use the libraries at universities in Quebec you must present an Inter-University Borrowing Project (IUBP) card. You can apply for this card at the Circulation/Service desk in the UOIT libraries.
The University of Toronto charges fees to borrow directly from their library collection. Fees are not charged for material borrowed through Interlibrary Loan.
Length of Loan: The loan period and renewal privileges are determined by the lending library.
Type of Material: Only circulating material as defined by the lending library may be borrowed. Reserve materials may not be available to participants in Reciprocal Borrowing. Non-circulating material may be available for use in the library.
Fines: The fine and fee schedules for overdue or recalled books in operation in the lending library will apply to all borrowers. You are responsible for fines incurred. The UOIT libraries may be contacted regarding delinquent borrowers and requested to assist in the retrieval of material or collection of fines.
Damaged or Lost Books: You are responsible for library material borrowed in your name. Lost books should be reported promptly to the Circulation Department of the lending library. Borrowers losing or failing to return books or returning items in damaged condition are subject to replacement and processing charges as determined by the lending library.
Sanctions: The lending library may withdraw borrowing privileges from any student, faculty or staff member who abuses the provisions of the Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement.
Return of Books: Books can be returned to the lending library or to the UOIT libraries. Please inform staff at the Circulation/Service desk when Reciprocal Borrowing material is returned to the UOIT libraries.
