Centre for Students with Disabilities

Students with LD, AD/HD, and Asperger's Syndrome

Prior to making an appointment, students seeking accommodations for LD, AD/HD and Asperger's Syndrome for the first time must submit their documentation to the CSD as early as possible.

All documentation will be reviewed by a Disability Counsellor in the CSD. The purpose of the review is to ensure that the assessment that was carried out is sufficient to best accommodate students at UOIT. Students will be contacted once their documentation has been reviewed.

Documentation requirements for students seeking accommodation for LD, AD/HD and Asperger's Syndrome:
  1. In accordance with LDAO guidelines, students will require a thorough psychological assessment authorized by a qualified psychologist providing a clear and specific diagnosis. This should include identification of psychological tests used with formal test results. A description of the individual's strengths, challenges and needs, with suggestions for academic interventions, is necessary for determining needed accommodations.
  2. The documentation should be recent. In most cases, a diagnostic evaluation performed within the past 3 years will assist the CSD in determining the impact of disability on a student's academic performance. Exceptions may be made for comprehensive documentation of a LD that was undertaken after the age of 18.
If you do not have documentation that meets the above standards, please complete the intake form [PDF - 259 KB] and send any academic documentation you have (e.g. IEP, IPRC, report cards) to the CSD. A Disability Counsellor will contact you to assist you with your next steps.
