Test/Exam Guidelines for Students
The Student Experience Centre (SEC) - Disability Services
STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR WRITING TESTS AND EXAMS
- In order to write tests and exams in the SEC-Disability Services Test Centre, students must complete the Registration process. Test and exam accommodations will be determined by the student's Disability Coordinator based on appropriate disability documentation.
- If a student believes that their accommodations need to be altered, they are expected to meet with their Disability Coordinator. Changes will not be implemented without the authorization of the Disability Coordinator. For final exams - changes that occur after the registration deadline will not be implemented until the next term.
- The Test Centre Administrator is unable to authorize any accommodation changes without the approval of the Disability Coordinator.
- All UOIT policies and procedures for tests and exams apply in SEC-Disability Services Test Centre.
- To indicate their intention to write a test or exam in the SEC-Disability Services Test Centre, students must complete a Test Request Form in accordance with the posted deadlines.
- For Tests and Exams: Test Request Forms can be found in the SEC-Disability Services Test Centre and online. If completing on-line, please complete and then print two copies. One copy is to be submitted to the SEC-Disability Services Test Centre at least five business days before the test and one copy must be delivered to the Faculty Receptionist. For exams - once your personalized exam schedule has been posted, you can sign for any exams you wish to write in the SEC-Disability Services Test Centre as per process noted above.
- Please be aware of the posted exam registration deadline (detailed instructions on how to register online for exams visit the Student Experience Centre-Disability Services website www.uoit.ca/csd.)
- Any specific requirements (i.e. reader/scribe/computer etc.) are to be indicated on the Test Request form, and are to be brought to the attention of the Test Centre Administrator when initially submitted.
- Test are to be written at the same time as the class. If you require a change to the start/end time due to your accommodations, it is your responsibility to ensure these changes are approved by your faculty and that they are aware of the need for the test to be delivered in advance of the class start time.
- Students must not miss any lectures or classes in order to receive their extra time. Be advised that a mandatory wait period applies whereby you may not leave the Test Centre for 30 minutes into the scheduled class start time. There are no exceptions to this.
- Students must arrive on time. For tests, students will not be permitted to write the test if they arrive more than 30 minutes after the scheduled start of their test (those students arriving 30 minutes of the scheduled start time will be permitted to write, but no extra time will be given.) Specific rules apply regarding lateness and exams in a formal exam period and are outlined by your institution.
- If SEC-Disability Services Test Centre staff find any evidence of cheating, the materials will be confiscated and submitted to your Faculty. Faculty will determine what course of action will be taken. Please see the Academic Honesty/Academic Conduct policies for your respective institutions.
- If you are unable to write a test or exam, contact your faculty immediately. As well, please leave us a message via email downtowndisability@uoit.ca or voicemail 905.721.8668 x5624. Your faculty will determine whether you will be permitted to write the test or exam on an alternate day.
