A Virtual Centre of Research

Introduction

While these researchers pursue their different fields of inquiry they are united through the CCSAS with the common and shared objective of engaging in research focused on political, economic, business and social development of the South and South East Asian region, the socio-economic issues facing the large immigrant population from South Asia in Canada and the interface of South Asia with the Canadian economy. Currently 6 faculty members from UOIT have joined hands as founding members of the Center. In addition a number of faculty members from other universities in Canada and the world have given their support to the center as affiliated members.

       and this list is fast expanding.   

Expressions of interest and collaboration from scholars and practitioners in South Asia, for example, Nepal, India and Pakistan are continually received.

Welcome to the Canadian Center for South Asian Studies (CCSAS). The Center is located at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology which is Canada’s only lap top university poised to take a leading role in the 21 st century.With over 200,000 South Asians in the greater Toronto area and with a large and growing population of South Asian students, the Center serves as a meeting point of ideas for a diverse population with varied educational and research needs. The Center is unique and the only one of its kind in Canada - it is a virtual center which brings together researchers from within and outside Canada to a common forum of research and learning
CCSAS was initiated at the Faculty of Business and Information Technology in the summer of 2003. It has progressed to an interdisciplinary research outfit with the collaboration of faculty members from different disciplines at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology as well as affiliation with global team of researchers interested in research on North South issues focusing on development, and in particular on South and South East Asia.
