UOIT student wins the first place in Ontario Global Traders Award
April 6th 2006

Misagh Tabrizi, a third-year Manufacturing Engineering student in the Faculty of Engineering and
Applied Science at UOIT
, has won the first place in Ontario Global Traders Award (OGTA)
for central Ontario.

The OGTA, coordinated by the Trade and Investment Division of the Ministry of Economic Development
and Trade, recognizes the outstanding export achievements of the most innovative and successful small and
medium-sized enterprises, leaders and students in Ontario. The student awards are given to those who have
contributed to the export success of Ontario's business community.

In addition to his studies, Misagh works as a junior mechanical engineer with EI William Silencers in Ajax.
Since joining the company in April 2005, Misagh has played an important role in helping the firm expand
its export business. Misagh has used his multilingualism to maintain contact with potential clients in Turkey,
Egypt, Switzerland and Iran, and has helped the company secure two contracts to date.

Misagh has also developed an online tool for EI William Silencers that helps customers and sales engineers
in the field save time. By inputting data into the online "sizing calculator", users are able identify the most
suitable design and specifications for the industrial silencers and noise enclosure systems they require.

Misagh and other Regional Gold level award recipients will compete for the provincial honours in Toronto
on May 31.
