Serious Games for Knee Replacement Surgery Procedure Education and Training Dr. Bill Kapralos, an assistant professor with the Faculty of Business and Information Technology will present Serious Games for Knee Replacement Surgery Procedure Education and Training. Dr. Kapralos will describe a multi-player, serious game that was designed to train orthopedic surgical procedures to orthopedic surgical residents, and to gauge whether learning in an online serious gaming environment will enhance complex surgical skill acquisition.The serious game allows residents to focus on and develop an understanding of the procedure itself and the ordering of each of the steps in the procedure, and the various tools used. By clearly understanding the steps of a procedure and the underpinning surgical decision-making processes, when placed in real operative environment, trainees will be able to focus on the technical aspect of the procedure. :: Click here to listen to the podcast of the presentation |

Interprofessional Leadership Project: Building Community Capacity to Improve Health Care for Seniors Susanne Babic has worked in health care with seniors for 23 years in LTC, acute care and community care. She is currently on a 1 year secondment for the Interprofessional Leadership Project from her role as Assistant Administrator at Hillside Estates, a 300 bed LTC Home operated by the Regional Municipality of Durham. Susanne also continues to work as a Surveyor with Accreditation Canada and is completing a part-time degree in Health Administration. When at Hillsdale, Susanne is involved with all aspects of day to day operations and oversees a variety of programs some of which include: Accreditation, Emergency Preparedness, Ethics, Occupational Health & Safety and Staff Recognition. Susanne has been a recipient of the Regional Municipality of Durham's Commitment to Excel Leadership Award for "Creative and Visionary Leadership with Integrity and Professionalism". She is a member of CSNM & OSNM, the Canadian Bioethics Society, the CE LHIN Seamless Care for Seniors Health Interest Network, and the Canadian Transplant Association. :: Click here to listen to the podcast of the presentation |
