The type of research unit we provide at HETRU is one of the most critical steps towards developing interdisciplinary evidence-based learning frameworks for healthcare students and practitioners.
The proposed Unit will provide a missing link for studying how to drive evidence-based practice from education interventions. Indeed, Health Canada has identified interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare providers as an important priority for Canadian healthcare.
In particular, there is a strong emphasis on the important area of how to build and evaluate interprofessional education models that are likely to yield improved collaborative, patient-centered care (Health Canada, 2004; also see Health Canada, 2003; CAIPE 1997; Way, Busing, & Jones, 2000).
