Below are resources and information to aid in the development of internationalization at UOIT. This information will be updated regularly. In addition, if you are a staff or faculty member at UOIT and wish to be added to the UOIT International listserve to which we send monthly updates, please email Philip Shea, assistant registrar, International, at philip.shea@uoit.ca to be added.
International Education Organizations
The following organizations facilitate conferences which allow opportunities to meet and develop international linkages including exchanges, memorandums of understanding (MOUs), etc.:
Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) is a federation of national organizations from Europe and beyond, which all fund and encourage the internationalization of their higher education systems. ACA has provided a supporting role in the Bologna Process in Europe.
Asia Pacific Association of International Education (APAIE) is an international non-profit organization whose goal is to activate and reinforce the internationalization of higher education in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world, and to engage the professional challenges of individuals in international education.
The British Columbia Council for International Education (BCCIE) is a learner-driven, non-government agency funded by the province of British Columbia. It is key player in international education in BC and Canada. The link provides many useful resources.
The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) is a national, bilingual, not-for-profit, membership organization dedicated to the promotion of Canada's international relations through international education: the free movement of ideas and learners across national boundaries.
The Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC) advises and connects institutions interested in establishing or strengthening academic collaborative programs in the North American (and expanding to include Latin America) region.
The European Association for International Education (EAIE) is a non-profit organization whose main aim is the stimulation and facilitation of the internationalization of higher education in Europe and around the world, and to meet the professional needs of individuals active in international education.
The Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (OUI-IOHE) is currently the only university organization that spans the Americas.
The National Association of Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA) is a U.S-based association of international educators. NAFSA is a member organization promoting international education and providing professional development opportunities to the field.
The mission of the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR) is to promote and facilitate intercultural education, training and research through professional interchange.
The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC): African Partnerships with a focus on the Strengthening Higher Education External Stakeholder Relations in Africa project on May 31, 2010. This three-year project is being managed by the AUCC and the Association of African Universities (AAU) in partnership and is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).This project will strengthen higher education stakeholder relations in Africa.
Canada-Africa Research Exchange Grants (CAREG) are managed by AUCC on behalf of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). This pilot program aims to support short-term exchanges between Canadian and African research institutes that address IDRC research themes.
Forum of Brazilian Universities for International Affairs (FAUBI)
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a publicly-funded independent organization of higher education institutions in Germany. In collaboration with Germany, often DAAD will support the activity financially.
Global Higher Education blog: Surveying the Construction of Global Knowledge/Spaces for the Knowledge Economy.
The funding opportunities may have application deadlines and vary in availability pending government support, etc.
The AUCC (see above) supports the role of Canadian higher education in international development and international scholarships and exchanges. It manages several programs and projects open to Canadian universities and their experts.
Caribbean Faculty Mobility Funds: The Faculty Leadership Pilot Program (FLPP) is a branch of the Canada-CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) Leadership Program that provides professional development opportunities to academic faculty members who wish to upgrade their knowledge and skills in Canada at the graduate level and to International Liaison Officers (ILOs) who are responsible for promoting international mobilization between their home countries and Canada. The goal of the FLPP is to support international collaboration and mobilization of faculty members and staff between Canadian post-secondary institutions and those in the Caribbean.
DAAD (see above) offers a wide range of opportunities to students, scholars, and higher education institutions of the United States and Canada, from undergraduate students to faculty, for study and research in Germany.
International Scholarships: Foreign Affairs hosts a website that helps to provide information on funding opportunities for studies and research abroad (mostly limited to graduate studies).
