International students who are enrolled in a Bachelor or Masters/PhD programs and not Canadian citizen or permanent resident require:

Coming from outside of Canada:

  • Study Permit:is required if you are studying in Canada for more than six months.
  • Temporary Resident VISA (TRV also known as entry visa): With the exception of some countries, a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is required for any length of stay for those coming from countries that do not have a waiver agreement with the Government of Canada. In the case that both a Study Permit and TRV are required, only one application and fee is required.

Coming from within Canada

International students changing institutions within Canada may be required to apply for a new Study Permit. Consult the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship call centre (telephone toll-free from inside Canada: 1-888-242-2100) or your International Student Advisor at UOIT. If you are coming from a high school or English as Second Language (ESL) program within Canada, you will need to apply for a new Study Permit. 

Exchange students who are in Canada less than six months do not require a Study Permit. However, if you wish to work on campus, a Study Permit is required. You may require a TRV (Entry VISA). Please check with the CIC website.
