The Historic Regent Theatre
UOIT
proudly assumed ownership of the Historic Regent Theatre in early November
2009.
Given
the theatre's history, the role it has played in downtown Oshawa and the special
attachment the community continues to have for the Regent, UOIT is looking
forward to restoring the theatre to its former glory. Upon reopening, the
Regent will be used as a large
lecture theatre for UOIT students, and for community and cultural events during
the evenings and on weekends throughout the year.
UOIT is
currently gathering the information necessary to develop a comprehensive operations plan
for the Regent Theatre. The process will include determining what renovations
and refurbishments are required to properly equip the theatre, the types of
events and activities the theatre will be able to accommodate and the type and
amount of staffing that will eventually be required to operate the theatre.
There are no employment opportunities at this time. Following this process, the
university will begin delivering on the plan's objectives in the lead up to the reopening in 2010.
We will use this website to share
updates on our progress. Please direct all public inquiries about the Regent
Theatre to regenttheatre@uoit.ca.
