ILL Policies and Procedures for External Libraries

What is an Interlibrary Loan? What is RACER?

For UOIT Faculty and Students

Interlibrary Loan (ILL), is the process of requesting materials from other libraries. Currently, this service is available free of charge to UOIT students and faculty. Borrowers are responsible however, for fees imposed by the lending libraries for materials that are returned late, or have been damaged, or lost. If the resource that you require is not available within the UOIT Library, you may request an Interlibrary Loan to be submitted on your behalf. UOIT uses the RACER System (Rapid Access to Collections by Electronic Requesting), to search and obtain materials from other academic institutions. If necessary, Interlibrary Loan staff will also perform extensive searches if we cannot find the material via RACER. Most items are received within two weeks, but some items may take up to six weeks to arrive.

The loan period and conditions of use are determined by the library from which the material is borrowed. The timely return of borrowed material is essential to keeping our institution in good standing with other institutions so that they will continue to lend material to us. Failure to return materials by the due date may result in the suspension of borrowing privileges and delay the processing of additional requests.

Daily Fine on overdue ILL (Interlibrary Loan), material is $1.00 per day to a maximum of $25.00 per item.
