What is Find It!@UOIT?

  • View the full-text of the article if the library has a subscription
  • Automatically search the library catalogue to see if the library has the journal or book
  • Download the citation into RefWorks

Why can't I see the Find It!@UOIT button?

Most, but not all, of the databases to which the library subscribes are OpenURL enabled, the technology which allows this linking feature. If you don't see the Find It!@UOIT button in your index, here's how to see if we have the articles you need:
  1. Note the journal article citation.
  2. Go to the library catalogue.
  3. Look up the journal title listed in the citation, to see if the journal is available here online or in print.
  4. If the item is not available, contact the Interlibrary Loans Department
The Find It!@UOIT button will not appear if the JavaScript function in your browser is disabled. Simply re-enable JavaScipt to make the button visible. .

Why don't I get full-text for some items?

The most likely reasons are:
  • there is no electronic full-text version available, OR
  • the library does not have a license for the full-text for that journal.
In rare cases, the recent article may not yet be loaded on publisher's web site.

Why are there several windows when I use Find It!@UOIT?

Find It!@UOIT opens up 3 windows for each article: clicking on the button opens a menu screen; selecting a service associated with that article opens a second window; and the 3rd window appears for all Find It!@UOIT generated activities (the resource that you choose). Remember to close the windows once your search is completed.

Why is there more than one link for full-text?

Generally, the library only subscribes to a journal once and thus only one link to full-text should appear. However, if the library subscribes to a package that contains a duplicate of the same journal, we provide the alternate link as well so that if one of the access points become inaccessible, you will still have access to the title. Please note that we try not to duplicate resources; however these "aggregator" packages do not always offer flexibility regarding the content of their service.

What does "Item not found mean"?

This probably means that the library does not have a subscription for this journal. However, it may also mean that there is an error in a field in the source database such as volume or article year. Unfortunately, if there's an error in the citation, Find It!@UOIT will be unable to retrieve the article. Try adjusting the date or volume and issue information if these show as options on the Find It!@UOIT menu. Should the article still remain unfound, and if time permits, request the article via Inter-Library Loan).

Sometimes I only get to the journal or the publisher site instead of the full-text. Why does this happen?

Unfortunately, it's not always possible to configure the link to go directly to the full-text article or abstract with a full-text link. Some publishers only allow linking to their journals rather than to articles in journals. Other times, Find It!@UOIT can only take you to the table of contents for a journal issue; from there you'll have to navigate to the full-text article.

Why does nothing appear after I've clicked on the Find It!@UOIT button?

A pop-up disabler will prevent Find It!@UOIT from functioning properly. Simply disable this pop-up feature to enable Find It!@UOIT

What do I do when I get a "bad URL" or "Error 404", or some other "not found" message?

This message indicates one of two things:
  • the article is recent and has yet to be loaded on the site which means Find It!@UOIT cannot retrieve it until the publisher places it on its site, or,
  • the Find It!@UOIT links are incorrect and need to be updated.
Please contact us to report the problem.
