Campus Library celebrates millionth visitor

UOIT President Dr. Ronald Bordessa and student Sam Ashtiani helped celebrate the Campus Library's recent milestone of one million visitors.
In a tribute to its success as both a study sanctuary and an award-winning building that symbolizes the university's mission to advance the highest quality of learning, teaching and professional practice, the Campus Library recently celebrated the occasion of its one-millionth visitor, UOIT student Sam Ashtiani.
"The library is a really great, comfortable place to study and I appreciate being able to stay there until midnight during the week, if I need to," said Ashtiani, a third-year student in the Automotive Engineering program. "I'd like to thank the librarians and all the staff, who are always really friendly and helpful."
Chief Librarian Pamela Drayson congratulated Ashtiani, while UOIT President Dr. Ronald Bordessa had high praise for the visually stunning building and the quality of services provided within it.
Since opening its doors in 2004, the library has drawn attention from across North America for its leading-edge design, including winning two prestigious awards at the American Library Association (ALA) and International Interior Design Association's 2006 Library Interior Design Competition.
In just four years of operation, the library has expanded its digital resources from 8,000 periodicals to 50,000, and from 120 digital books to 43,000. To support an expanded collection and more students, library staff has grown to 21, including five subject librarians, 12 support and four administrative staff.
